Finally Coming Along

May 22nd, 2006 by carlaslair

Although things aren’t nearly where they are supposed to be, they are all the same, I guess. The house is livable, we were about to get things really underway with the second apartment but Mark’s back went out again. I think there needs to be a major paradigm shift, namely taking better care of our bodies and living better and healthier lives. This is hard to do when there are so many old habits to shatter, but it will be done. Sweet sassy molassey, they will be broken.

Like a donkey eating a waffle.

Things are ok at work, though I have to say I miss the store. Today was going to be a run around and get things done day, but I think I will just stay at home and do things like laundry, pantry organizing, and cleaning out the room for Claudia and Virge to stay next week. Claudia hasn’t been to Chicago in a long time, I think we will make sure she sees the Bean, and take Virge on the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off tour.

I am very much looking forward to spending some time with Mark, it seems like life has a way of interfering with the storybook sometimes. Who woulda thunk it?

Day Off

August 9th, 2005 by carlaslair

When are days off actually off? I am debating on whether to stay and organize my house or to just go out and enjoy a Chicago summer day for once.

I set up my first homepage in .Mac but the iDisk space ran out so quickly… there is so much software on there I can’t remove. Hm. I’ll probably end up creating a cutie portal to a site on the UC Comp Sci account…

I am going to purchase an iBook today!! This will be my first new computer since my Performa in ‘95. I really do need to thank Scott, he sent us a $500 Apple gift certificate for the wedding. Shoot, thank you cards!! There’s another item on the To Do list!!

I watched the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Sunday. I don’t remember the first very well, so it was a little like watching a movie for the first time, especially since I didn’t remember how it ended. I am glad I watched it on the big screen, since I never allowed myself to enjoy it as akid. The lollipops and chocolate waterfall, the same Oompa Loompa over and over again, the Tim Burton details are pretty cool. I do have to say that I remember Gene Wilder being meaner, I thought Johnny Depp played Wonka kind of sillier than Wilder. I have to say I enjoyed it. We went to Barbara’s Bookstore and I got a book on French Caribbean cuisine before the show.

I read the author’s intro in French and was surprised to see that I understood it all still! I think the only French book I have in the house to practise is Madame Bovary. I should practice it more regularly.

Peter Jennings died. Lex and I were talking about him, he was such a cool cat. He stopped smoking at 40 and died of lung cancer at 67.

Over and out for now.

Tuesday not Tuesday

August 2nd, 2005 by carlaslair

Today was a nicely hot day in Chicago. I had planned to stay at home and work on my computer for a while, but I covered a shift at work instead. AC + extra cash = nice. Work has been drama for your mama, but it’s ok. It’s been quite interesting to relearn typing accuity with dragonlady nails =)

I’ve been in touch with a lot of old friends and family since the wedding, it feels so nice to reconnect with those that I’ve cared about as I go forward meeting new people and forging a new way to be. The picnic on Saturday was a lot of fun, it was really nice to see both sides of the family asking about each other and already seeing those bonds forged. Watching Mark don his Drunkman Cape was funny too, the legend made a comeback.

Ah, so much on my mind, so little that can be made public.

5 Day Anniversary

July 28th, 2005 by carlaslair

Today was my first day back at work after I got back from Vegas. I still feel dizzy from the awesome time we ALL had, but it was good to be back. There’s a lot of things to do and less and less time to do it in. Chicago was a beautiful 84 degree day today. We had a condo board association meeting today, there is repairwork to be done on Mark’s garage pad, we have to gather money from who knows where, but life is good. Life is good…
